Why do I need this medicine?
Eplerenone helps to keep your blood pressure under control.

Eplerenone is also used to treat heart failure in patients who have had a heart attack.

How do I take this medicine?
Take Eplerenone exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Eplerenone must be taken regularly for it to work well. Continue taking Eplerenone even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by your doctor.

You may take Eplerenone with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have diabetes, heart, liver or kidney disease, or if you are taking any other types of medicines for heart disease or high blood pressure.

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while being treated with Eplerenone.

Alert your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with Eplerenone.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to Eplerenone regularly. He may also need to do routine blood tests while you are being treated with Eplerenone.

If you are going for an operation, including minor surgery and dental work, inform your doctor, surgeon or dentist that you are taking Eplerenone.

What side effects could I experience?
Eplerenone may cause dizziness. You may feel dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, especially if you are taking Eplerenone for the very first time. This is normal and should go away as you get used to the medicine. It will help if you get up slowly from a sitting or lying down position. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down until you feel better. Do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Eplerenone may also cause nausea, diarrhoea and tiredness.

Alert your doctor if these side effects are severe or refuse to go away.

Other side effects are not common, but may be serious. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience:
- chest pain
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- tingling sensation in your arms and legs
- unusual cough or flu-like symptoms

Can I take this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here:

- similar medicines such as spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride
- other medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, such as digoxin, captopril, enalapril
- antifungal medicines such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole
- antibiotics such as erythromycin
- antiviral medicines such as saquinavir
- a mood medicine called lithium
- painkillers known as NSAIDs

Do not take any new medicines without first asking your doctor.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Do not take potassium supplements. Avoid taking too much food that is high in potassium, such as orange juice, bananas or prunes. Do not use salt substitutes that contain potassium.

Avoid grapefruit juice.

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
