Why do I need this medicine?
Tiagabine is used together with other medicines to treat epilepsy (also known as seizures or fits).

How do I take this medicine?
Take Tiagabine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Tiagabine must be taken regularly for it to work well. Do not skip any doses. Do not stop taking Tiagabine unless instructed by your doctor. Your condition may worsen if Tiagabine is stopped suddenly.

Take Tiagabine with food. Take it with plenty of water.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with Tiagabine.

Alert your doctor if you have liver disease.

Tiagabine is not meant for children younger than 12 years old.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have depression or a history of behavioural problems.

For as long as you are being treated with Tiagabine, you will need to have regular blood tests to monitor your body's response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these blood tests.

What side effects could I experience?
Tiagabine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Tiagabine may also cause weakness, nervousness, tremors and nausea. It may also affect your concentration. Alert your doctor if any side effects are severe or if they do not go away.

Alert your doctor immediately if you experience bruising, rashes, changes in your eyesight, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat or worsening fits.

Can I take this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here:

- other epilepsy medicines such as carbamazepine, phenytoin or phenobarbitone
- sleeping pills
- antidepressants
- antifungals such as itraconazole or ketoconazole
- antibiotics such as erythromycin or clarithromycin

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
