Why do I need this medicine?
Sildenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men.

Sildenafil will aid in an erection only if you are sexually stimulated.

How do I take this medicine?
Take Sildenafil exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more than instructed by your doctor.

Do not take Sildenafil more than once a day.

Sildenafil should be taken 1 hour before your planned sexual activity. Swallow the tablet whole with some water.

You may take Sildenafil with or without food. Try not to take it with a high fat meal as this may delay the effect of Sildenafil.

When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor immediately if you are taking any heart medicines, especially those known as "nitrates" or "nitrites".

Do not take Sildenafil if you are taking heart medicines known as "nitrates" or "nitrites".

Nitrates and nitrites are often used to treat angina (chest pain). They may be available as tablets, ointments, patches or sprays.

If you are not sure if your medicine belongs to the "nitrate" or "nitrite" group, ask your doctor.

Alert your doctor if you are taking any street drugs, such as amyl nitrite or amyl nitrate.

Do not take Sildenafil together with other treatments for erectile dysfunction.

Sildenafil is not meant to be used by women.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart disease, low or high blood pressure or if you ever had a stroke.

Alert your doctor if you have diabetes, blood disorders, blood cancers, blood clotting disorders, stomach ulcers, eyesight problems or eye disease, a deformed or diseased penis.

Sildenafil does not protect you or your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (STD). You should use appropriate protection or birth control.

What side effects could I experience?
Sildenafil may cause dizziness and blurred vision. If you feel dizzy or if your eyesight is affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert. Your night vision may not be as sharp as it used to be.

Sildenafil also commonly causes headache, indigestion, flushing of the face and increased eye sensitivity to light.

Alert your doctor immediately if you experience loss of vision, any changes in your vision, a blue tinge to your vision, sudden loss of hearing, ringing in the ears or an erection that lasts for more than 4 hours.

If you experience chest pain during sexual activity, stop all sexual activity and seek medical attention immediately.

Do not take "nitrates" or "nitrites" to relieve your chest pain. "Nitrates" and "nitrites" must never be taken with Sildenafil.

Can I take this with other medicines?
Alert your doctor immediately if you are taking any heart medicines, especially those known as "nitrates" or "nitrites".

- blood pressure medicines such as doxazosin
- antifungals such as itraconazole or ketoconazole
- antibiotics such as erythromycin, clarithromycin or doxycycline
- antiviral medicines such as ritonavir
- gastric medicines such as cimetidine
- bosentan

Alert your doctor if you are taking any street drugs, such as amyl nitrite or amyl nitrate.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice.

Try not to take Sildenafil with a high fat meal as this may delay the effect of Sildenafil.

How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
