Painful Scars?

Painful Scars?

A MUM-of-one has told how a small operation to remove a cyst caused her agony for months.

Jodie Melling, 30, was left with a painful scar four inches long after doctors removed a troublesome lump from her wrist last year.

But she could not believe how much pain she was left in because of the surgery.

“I used to wake at night in agony,” she said. “I had the operation in July 2016 although the cyst had been there for many years.

“It took half-an-hour and I thought that would be the end of it but I ended up in complete misery.

“The problem was I was too frightened to move my wrist for the first two weeks because I thought I would burst the stitches.

“It was my own fault because doctors told me I should keep moving it but I didn’t.”

The mum says the painful patch started to “really affect her life” as she struggled to sleep properly and change her daughter’s nappies.

She said: “When I did start to move it around it was really painful as though the stitches were too tight. The scar was puffed up and raised at the edges.

“My daughter Sophia, now 3, was still in nappies and I found it very hard to change her because of the pain I was in.

“Worse still, I started to have problems sleeping at night. For at least one night a week I would be unable to sleep.”

Doctors told her to use water-based creams like E45 every day and rub it into the scar morning and night.

Jodie said: “It just did not help. The surgeon I spoke to told me if I kept massaging it with cream the pain would go away but it was getting worse.

“I really thought I would end up having steroid injections which I really could not afford but it seemed to be the only alternative.”

Jodie, who lives with husband Michael, 31, and Sophia in Wigan, Greater Manchester, finally solved the problem when she changed to Nourisil  MD silicone scar gel.

Almost immediately the pain disappeared and in the first week she slept every night.

She added: “I have no idea how it works but it has done wonders for me.

“It was almost instant relief from the moment I applied it and I have never looked back.”

Nourisil  MD is an ultra-light, transparent silicone gel developed for the prevention and management of scars resulting from surgery, trauma and burns.

It works by helping to flatten, soften and smooth scars through a unique formula of five different silicones and vitamin E.

A number of studies in the past have shown that silicone can decrease water loss from the skin, which is one of the causes of scarring.

It can also prevent itching, redness, and discolouration.

The product has just become available to buy in the UK for the first time after being successfully launched in Europe over the last 12 months.

Jodie continued: “Even the scar seems to be fading and my wrist is as mobile as it used to be. I would never have believed that changing product could make such a difference.”

A 30g bottle of Nourisil  MD is available to buy for £28 - almost half the cost of many similar alternatives.

Dan Barton, the UK Marketing & Innovation Manager of Nourisil  MD said: “Silicone has been used as an effective way to treat scars for decades.

“Nourisil  MD contains a high level of different silicones which makes our product unique when compared with other scar treatment products on the market
